Travel Advice and Tips
ADVENTUROUS WOMEN BELIEVE IN ETHICAL TRAVEL
Our heart may be in the right place, but often we don't know exactly how to be ethical or responsible when we travel......
So what is Ethical Travel?
- Be culturally sensitive and learn as much as you can about your destination's culture before you go.
- Learn a few simple words of the local language such as hello, please, thank you and no thank you - it will earn you respect.
- Respect local cultures, traditions and holy places - if in doubt ask advice.
- Remove all excess packaging as waste disposal is difficult in remote places and developing countries.
- Ask your tour operator or hotel if there are certain gifts that you could bring from home to give to local people.
- Ask your tour operator if there are any local conservation or social projects you could visit on your trip.
- Buy locally in preference to imported goods - the locals are more likely to benefit.
- Hire a local guide as you'll discover more about local culture and they get to earn an income.
- Use public transport, hire a bike or walk where convenient - its a great way to mix with the locals and reduce pollution/carbon emissions.
- Be environmentally aware and don't litter or leave waste behind. Don't waste water or food.
- Offset your carbon emissions by using a carbon calculator.
