If you want to enjoy theatre like you never have before, seeing Broadway shows is a must when you are in New York. With so many available performances, you are bound to find something for everyone to enjoy. In fact, Broadway performances are becoming more and more popular each year with tourists all over the world.


What Is Broadway?

The Broadway Theatre District actually consists of 40 professional theatres specialising in world famous theatrical performances. The theatres can be found in the theatre District and Lincoln Centre along Broadway (New York City's Manhattan borough). With so many theatres to visit, you will benefit greatly from checking into nearby New York hotels to make the most of your stay.

What Is on Broadway in 2013?

In New York City, the Broadway theatre District is a very popular tourist attraction. In fact, it generated approximately $1.081 billion worth of tickets in 2012. Even with the record breaking season, the 2013 lineup is looking to surpass its predecessor with the following:

First Date

This musical comedy is centred around a blind date between a tense man named Aaron and a cool girl named Casey. Although there is not much yet available about the show, previews are set to begin in July of 2013.

Romeo and Juliet

If you are a fan of Orlando Bloom (best known for his character of Legolas in Lord of the Rings), you will have a chance to see him this summer on Broadway. Both Orlando Bloom and Condola Rashad (Stick Fly) will be playing as the legendary star-crossed lovers in a new production from David Leveaux.

Big Fish

This performance is a musical version of Tim Burton's film that will be directed and choreographed by Susan Stroman (The Producers). It will additionally feature music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa (The Addams Family), and is set to begin previewing in September of 2013.

The Glass Menagerie

This Broadway play is based on the American Repertory Theatre's revival of Tennessee Williams' work. With Cherry Jones (Doubt) and Zachary Quinto (Star Trek), the all-star cast is sure to please. It is also directed by John Tiffany (Once).


If you are a fan of Daniel Craig (better known for playing the latest James Bond), you will have the chance to see him on Broadway this fall. He will be staring alongside of his wife, Rachel Weisz (best known by her role in The Mummy series). It is a revival of one of Harold Pinter's plays, and is directed by Mike Nichols.


This performance is a musical performance based on the iconic movie from the 1980's.  It is set to open in fall of 2013, and will feature a book by Barry Levinson with music and lyrics by Sheryl Crow. The performance will be directed by Kathleen Marshall (Nice Work If You Can Get It).
