Itinerary

Departing Perth early this morning we begin our journey north, enjoying the variety of Western Australian Wildflowers along the way. We stop in at Dongara’s Moreton Terrace en-route to grab a cuppa and enjoy a picnic lunch in the shade of the giant fig trees.

After lunch we continue north, through historic Greenough, the port city of Geraldton and via Lynton Convict Settlement towards Kalbarri. Just before we reach Kalbarri, we take you to some of the most impressive vantage points along this rugged red coastline. Here you can stretch your legs and enjoy the stunning views, while keeping an eye out for migrating whales, or more commonly, the pods of dolphins regularly gracing these waters. Once checked in at our accommodation, we’ll freshen up before regrouping and walk to the local pub to enjoy our first evening meal together.

Meals: Lunch

Accommodation: Motel Style - Multi share (unless single requested & available at time.)

After breakfast this morning, we take a drive out to Kalbarri National Park to explore the rugged terrain and relative seclusion of the mighty Murchison Gorge. We undertake a couple of short walks to access lookouts along the river gorge at The Loop (Nature’s Window) and Z Bend. Once we’ve enjoyed our time here, we’ll head off to our station stay, arriving in the afternoon, set up camp and have plenty of time to relax in the naturally heated therapeutic artesian bore baths to soothe the muscles. Later … it’s dinner around the campfire enjoying the amazing night skies and the friendly outback atmosphere

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Accommodation: Camping (you have the privacy of your own roomy tent)

We take a little time this morning to enjoy the station surrounds before heading off to Exmouth. Some may like to take a walk along the river walking trail listening to the sounds of nature, watching the wildlife and landscape unfold, others may choose to explore the treasures of the historical tip or take another natural bath.

Mid morning we say goodbye to our station friends and drive onto Exmouth. On our arrival, we’ll check in, set up camp and then we have free time to explore the town, or jump in the pool for a swim before we re-group and head out to one of the local restaurants/pubs for dinner.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

Accommodation: Camping (you have the privacy of your own roomy tent)

We’ve purposely built in this day of leisure for you to enjoy your choice of activity while exploring WA’s world famous Ningaloo Reef. Some may choose to swim with the Manta Ray’s, some booking full or half day kayaking/snorkelling tours, some taking part in a Yardie Creek boat tour or other boat tours. We can provide you with a list of available tours (and operators) on booking this trip.

Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

Accommodation: Camping (you have the privacy of your own roomy tent)

We take the giant leap from Exmouth across to Pilbara’s Cheela Plains Station today. We expect to be on the road for around 6 - 7 hours including a couple of breaks, before our arrival at this welcoming family owned and managed Cattle Station. This afternoon we enjoy sunset viewing over the expansive Pilbara plains and afterwards, settle in for the eve around the campfire.

Today we experience all Cheela Plains has to offer, on a full day 4WD Gorge Tour. This tour is lead by a knowledgeable local guide with expert commentary, we have a chance to swim & discover fresh water mussels at refreshing Mussel Pool, we’ll explore & discover magnificent South Vivash and Beasley Gorges and drive through tree lined Horseshoe Creek. Truly an unforgettable and unique Pilbara experience that many have yet to discover!

This morning we pack up camp early, head into Tom Price to pick up supplies and grab a cuppa, before heading into Karijini National Park for our first hike within the amazing gorge system. We take you scrambling & rock hopping in Knox Gorge and then onto Joffre Falls lookout, before setting up camp at the Karijini Eco Retreat Campgrounds where we'll enjoy our first meal in Karijini under the stars.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Accommodation: Camping (you have the privacy of your own roomy tent)

Today, we head to the eastern end of the park, calling into the Visitors Centre and then heading further into the park, where we’ll spend all day exploring Dales Gorge, so get your walking shoes and swimming gear at the ready! The walking trails here are well marked and designed for a wide range of fitness levels, however they can be rocky underfoot at times and you will need to negotiate steep steps to gain access to the trails within the gorge itself. You will be rewarded though with amazing swimming opportunities at Fern Pool, Circular Pool & Fortescue Falls…once cool, we then ascend.

At the end of our day, we’ll drive back to camp, freshen up and head over to the Karijini Eco Retreat Restaurant where we’ll relax and enjoy dinner together "our shout".

Accommodation: Camping (you have the privacy of your own roomy tent)

This morning will be an early start for those who have chosen and pre-booked to join West Oz Active on their full day Red Gorge Adventure Tour (Optional - please read the fitness requirements on their website). For those who are not doing this tour, don’t worry ...there will be plenty of action for you during the day! We head off to Weano Gorge for lots of walking, swimming and rock hopping, then after lunch we explore magnificent Hancock Gorge, where we have the option of challenging ourselves a little to reach the serenity of Kermits Pool.

We pack up camp early this morning, as we have a long drive to Nanutarra. We have a reasonable stop in Tom Price where our guides will collect provisions for the group, while you enjoy a cuppa, stretch your legs and grab something to have for lunch on the road.

We’ll make a couple of brief toilet stops along the way and hope to reach our destination late afternoon. After setting up camp, we’ll take a short walk down to the banks of the mighty Ashburton River where we'll enjoy sunset drinks & nibbles.

Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

Accommodation: Camping (you have the privacy of your own roomy tent)

Today we head back to the wonders of Wooramel Station for another overnight stay, arriving with plenty of time to relax, explore the walking trails and enjoy more of what this fabulous station has to offer.

Another night around the campfire enjoying the starry skies.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Accommodation: Twin or Triple Share in Jackaroo Quarter's

We start the day at a leisurely place, before heading off mid-morning to our final destination for the day, Dongara. Later, we get together at a local restaurant/pub where we’ll enjoy our final meal together.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

Accommodation: Hotel/Motel Rooms Twin Share (single on request if available)

It's your holiday and if you choose not to walk, swim or explore on any given day, that's totally cool with us. Age - No barrier on our tours, you just need to have good mobility and a good attitude.  On this particular tour as a guide, the ages generally range from 25 through to 75.

Most people join our tours as 'solo' travellers, so you'll never feel alone ... we're a very inclusive & friendly bunch!

No Princess Policy

To join this tour, you need to be willing to put up and pack down a tent (we work in pairs and we show you how to do it ... it's easy once you've done it), bog in and help with washing up/camp duties, adopt a ‘go with the flow’ attitude.  You need to be able to navigate your way up and down rocky steps, through gorges and walk on unstable rocky surfaces at times without assistance. (Some in Karijini are challenging)  You also need to be able to swim.  Most importantly ... it's WA Outback Country and where we're going is a LONG WAY, we've done our best to keep travelling times to a minimum where possible, however ...you need to be able to handle being in a vehicle for several hours at any one time.

I enjoyed that it had different elements, day one was paddling the river and looking at the bush, a drink at the pub, the chance to have a spa on the Saturday night and then on the Sunday it was more Estuary.

Having the 2 Dolphins swim under us going up the river then seeing them come back past at lunch time was great
