Our Friday in your local area today brings us to the south side of Brisbane into the Karawatha Forest Park.
The naming of the suburb Karawatha originates from an Aboriginal word meaning "A Place with Pine Trees”.
Let Caron & Kat take you on a relaxing wander to explore, discover and be inspired around one of Brisbane’s largest bushland reserves (900 hectares). This park and other bushland reserves to the west form part of the largest remaining stretch of open eucalypt bushland in South East Queensland. The area is known as the Flinders Karawatha Corridor which extends from Karawatha Forest to Flinders Peak and makes up 56,350 hectares.
Home to over 320 native plants species and an important refuge for over 200 species of wildlife, this forest is important to the local community and Queensland as a whole. Some of Brisbane’s last remaining wet heathlands & melaleuca wetlands are located within the park.
Our walk will finish where we began. We can sit to rest our legs and enjoy something fresh from the AW Pantry. Remember to bring your thermos if you want a cuppa as well.
● An opportunity to spot some local wildlife!
● A Brand-new AW adventure – nice & close to home.
