Join Adventurous Women on this lovely walk along the sands from Mudjimba Surf Life Savings Club down to Pincushion Island at the mouth of the Maroochy River. The backdrop for this magnificent walk is the open ocean with Old Woman Island watching over us as we make our way along the wet sand.
Pincushion Island is technically not an island however at high tide she is sometimes surrounded with water. The Island offers opportunities for exploration, the colours and textures of the rocks are fascinating and superb views once you climb the top.
From here we will follow the northern shore of the Maroochy River into the mangroves where tiny crabs and seabirds thrive. As we wind our way along the shore we reach an old jetty, the perfect spot for a great group photo.
We then head into the Maroochy River Conservation Area where we can enjoy the melodies of the Eucalypt Forest birds, marvel at the bracken ferns and walk gently under the soft filtered canopy above. As we leave the Conservation Park we make our way back to the surf club. Here we will grab a picnic table and enjoy a cuppa, and something made fresh from the AW Pantry.
This is a relatively easy walk and suitable for walkers of all ages. A good level of fitness and a sturdy walking shoe are recommended.
#: There are toilet facilities at the trailhead.
