Join experienced pack hiker Chris at Gold Creek Reservoir, located in Upper Brookfield, in Brisbane's western suburbs for a hike training session to help get you ready to tackle more difficult terrain and or/longer more difficult hikes.. Gold Creek is a hidden gem with a great trail close to the city.
The track can be fairly narrow and quite steep at times so while it is a grade is 3 trail (Moderate) please note there is some uneven ground, however the spectacular lake views are quite something and as we walk we will pass through tall eucalypt forests with thickets of rainforest plants in the more protected gullies.
This grading is 3 (Moderate) but please note there is some uneven ground and steps
If bringing a pack please ensure it has a supportive waist band and we recommend no more than 10kgs of weight for beginners.
tip: bottles of water are a great weight as they're easy to measure 1L =1Kg and if you're finding it too heavy can be tipped out to reduce your weight
The dam is Queensland's second oldest, constructed in 1886 to supplement Enoggera Dam. It was extensively refurbished in 2005 and is the world’s first un-reinforced concrete stepped spillway. The lake is quite small with a catchment area of just 10.5km2 and holds 801 megalitres of water at full supply.
The bushland surrounding Gold Creek is part of the D'Aguilar National Park and contains plants and wildlife of regional biodiversity significance including many bird species such as Whip Birds, Bell Birds and the beautiful Azure Kingfisher. When we return to our start point we will enjoy a well earned cuppa and something sweet (supplied).
The picnic area is really beautiful so you may want to bring along your lunch and stay on

Thank you Sue & Lyn for a wonderful first time experience. Everyone was kind and welcoming. I will be returning :)
What a lovely weekend. I was only able to complete two days of the walk due to a knee injury, but the two days I walked the scenery was beautiful. Lovely soft leafy ground underfoot. A really pretty area of WA. As usual our AW guides were absolutely wonderful. And the food was fantastic (Brads Jam drop biscuits were perfect). The accomodation was very nice and perfectly situated so that I still had close access to Pemberton town on the days I could not walk.
As always AW did not disappoint! Fabulous walks , Lyn is a great guide, and we made good time through the (undulating !)Karri forrest. Sue gave us great food ( despite having no oven !!😂😂)
The best way to unwind as usual, Thankyou again
Lynne and Sue 👍
A great couple of days on the Kattamorda Heritage Trail. Found the first day trek relatively easy despite the distance and the second day was surprisingly interrupted with lunch at the Mundaring Weir Hotel. Our guide, Imogen, was great very inclusive and nothing was any trouble, thank you Imogen for a great weekend.
Great walk, up and down green hills, across creeks, through paddocks, starting and ending in a beautiful little town.
An great weekend in the Darling Ranges!
This was a fabulous city walk. I grew up in Perth all my life and I discovered places and things on this walk that I never knew existed. Jazzy is just amazing, full of knowledge and patience and just a fabulous host. Thank you for an amazing day. And I loved Brads biscuits, which are always a highlight for me.
