Who's up for a challenging walk in the Perth Hills?  You'll be rewarded with stunning views, waterfalls, wildflowers and more!  The two combined trails chosen make up 12km's of hiking and are classified as a Grade 4 - there are some short steep climbs and of course hilly terrain (Perth Hills) therefore we recommend a good level of fitness and previous bushwalking experience to tackle this hike.

We start the morning climbing to the spectacular Sixty Foot Falls in the Ellis Brook Valley Reserve in Banyowla Regional Park.  This walk is a short but steep climb to the top of the Falls, affording magnificent views of the City and the valley along the way, before descending past the old Barrington Quarry where old workings provide a window into the geology of the area.

This quarry is distinctly known for its yearly round bluey green water and you are greeted with uninterrupted views of what could be a scene from the Kimberley. The now abandoned quarry has a man-made lake that you peer over from your viewing point with sheer granite cliffs surrounding it on three sides. From the right position you could imagine you are in the middle of nowhere sitting right above a beautiful gorge surrounded by nature.

Leaving here, we drive in convoy for 7km to the Bickley Reservoir.  In recent years the Bickley Reservoir has again been made part of Perth’s water supply. We traverse the Reservoir and head sharply uphill, a sustained climb up to the junction of the Kattamordoa Trail before heading into Korung National Park. On our 4km loop we will stop at the Lions Lookout for more magnificent and expansive views out over the Perth Coastal Plain.Given its proximity to the well populated suburbs of Lesmurdie and Kalamunda, you will be happily surprised to find that within 100m from the road you lose all feeling that you are near civilisation.

We head back to rejoin with the Bickley Reservoir loop trail and find granite outcrops, stands of Wandoo and She-Oaks. Before descending back down we catch glimpses again of the Bickley Reservoir below. An array of wildflowers of all shapes and colours are on display from September through to November and numerous varieties of orchids are here to be found. We complete todays walk back at our cars feeling accomplished, rejuvenated and refreshed.
