Come and explore the Mt Mitchell track at Cunninghams Gap - part of the Main Range National Park.

We will start our adventure from The Crest Carpark, and our legs will get a good workout as we pass through rainforest, woodland and montane heath up to the west peak (1162m).

We then venture out onto the saddle between the two peaks and eventually end up on a knife-edge ridge above the sheer cliff of the east peak (1175m) known as "Cooyinnirra" to the local Aboriginal people.

Mt Mitchell has unparalleled views and you'll feel on top of the world gazing over the Fassifern & Millar Vale Creek valleys, Mt Maroon, Mt Lindesay, Mt Ballow and the legendary Mt Barney.

The mountain is home to the Peregrine Falcon, the "Top Gun" bird of prey which can reach speeds of 180kms per hour in near-vertical hunting dives which we might be lucky enough to see as we walk.

This park is part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage area and is famed for its ongoing geological processes, evolutionary history and diversity of rare, threatened and endemic species.

After we descend the mountain we will head to a nearby picnic area for a cuppa and a homemade treat.

Please note that there are toilet facilities at the beginning of this walk at the Crest Carpark.

This was a very well organised tour, the pick ups seemed to go without a hitch. The guides were very happy & knowledgeable. The food was delicious ! The Champagne at the end was a lovely touch to finish the hike.
