beginner heritage rail trail rainforest

This 12km return trail winds through state forest near the Glasshouse Mountains and follows the signature section of the Caboolture to Kilcoy rail trail.

The Caboolture to Kilcoy railway line first opened in 1913 - Wamuran was one of the many stations along this line - the station was named in 1909 after a local Aboriginal man, Menvil Wamuran, who also went by the name of Jacky Delaney.  Keep an eye out for the deep cuts in the rock faces that were made when the rail line was built.

This walk is surrounded by pineapple plantations and the occasional strawberry farm and is mostly covered with dense rainforest providing plenty of cover.

For such a compact area, the diversity of flora is one of the many attractions to this section located within the West Beerwah State Forest - there is generally some good birdlife as well a few friendly goanna's to be found along the way. With luck we might also be sharing the trail with some local's exercising their horses.

We turn around at the road crossing and return the way we came. The trail has a very gentle incline with the usual uneven surface.

Afterwards we will travel back to Wamuran to a local bakery where we have the option to support the local community by purchasing morning tea.

Please note: There are no toilet facilities at the trail head.
