Lovely outing on the river. Very peaceful and a different perspective from the river.
Escape to the Perth Hills on this scenic 12.5km hike through beautiful eucalypt forest, alongside babbling brooks and historic landmarks. With a mix of nature, local history and a short rocky scramble leading to panoramic city views, it's a rewarding day on the trails.
This rewarding 12.5km hike showcases some of the very best of the Perth Hills, combining beautiful bushland, fascinating local history and sweeping city views. Part of our route follows the Mason & Bird Heritage Trail, where we'll discover reminders of the area's timber milling past, including the oldest surviving wooden tram bridge in Western Australia.
The trail winds through towering eucalypt forest, alongside the clear waters of Bickley Brook, and past granite outcrops, tiny waterfalls and seasonal wildflowers, with plenty of opportunities to spot native birdlife. If we're lucky, we may see a kangaroo or two. We'll also visit historic Victoria Dam and the original dam wall, along with a few hidden gems tucked away in the bush.
One section of the walk includes a short but rocky uphill scramble, adding a fun challenge before we're rewarded with spectacular views across Perth and the surrounding hills.
Blending natural beauty, history and a touch of adventure, this is one of the most varied and memorable hikes in the Perth Hills.
The walk is 12.5 km- it’s predominantly Grade 3, following well-defined bush tracks with some hills and uneven terrain. One short section is Grade 4, involving a rocky uphill scramble. No technical climbing skills or previous scrambling experience are required, but you should be comfortable on uneven, rocky terrain for short distances.
Lovely outing on the river. Very peaceful and a different perspective from the river.
