"The Dingle way experience was full of variety and challenge and beautiful scenery. What a fabulous group of ladies to travel with (as usual)"
Rugged clifftops, remote villages and the wild Atlantic at every turn: this 10-day trek along the Dingle Peninsula is Ireland at its most raw, beautiful and authentic.
From windswept headlands to tiny Irish-speaking villages, AW's Dingle Way Trek is a journey into one of Ireland's most remote and soulful corners.
Over 10 days, we trace the wild western edge of the Dingle Peninsula, challenging ourselves over approximately 160km of coastal paths, mountain ridges and ancient laneways that wind through some of Ireland's most breathtaking and storied landscapes. Shaped by the relentless Atlantic and largely untouched by modern development, this is a place that feels genuinely apart: rugged, rooted in tradition and full of character.
Along the way, you'll walk clifftops above crashing surf, pass through timeless villages, discover the remnants of ancient castles and early Christian sites, and climb paths with views that go on forever. Evenings bring their own reward: the warmth of a local pub, a comfortable bed and a well-earned pint.
You'll be in excellent hands throughout - guided by both a knowledgeable local Irish trekking manager who knows this peninsula intimately, and your AW Tour Leader, ensuring every day on the trail is well-supported, safe and memorable.
This is a challenging trek, with mostly Grade 4 hikes, covering up to 24 km per day on successive days of trekking. The route covers a mix of terrain, from fields and farms to boggy peat and sand. While these are avoided wherever possible, there is still a fair amount of walking on sealed roads which can be tiring on the feet and legs. It is not a trip to ‘get fit on’. It is essential that you commit to training in advance and build up your endurance as well as to break in your gear.
Your Ireland adventure begins in Tralee, the vibrant administrative and cultural capital of County Kerry. If you arrive early, take a stroll around this lively town brimming with local charm- the perfect place to ease into the rhythm of southwest Ireland.
In the evening, we’ll gather for a 6:00 pm group meeting and trip briefing, followed by a delicious welcome dinner, a perfect way to get to know your fellow travelers and kick off the journey ahead.

Near the end of the day, we pass a beautifully preserved 12th-century oratory, a small stone structure that reflects the area’s deep spiritual and historical roots.

As we make our way to the southern side of the peninsula, we’ll pause to enjoy the views over Inch Beach, a vast arc of golden sand reaching into the Atlantic. From there, we head inland to the village of Annascaul, best known as the hometown of legendary Antarctic explorer Tom Crean, the “Hero of the South Pole.”
Note: due to the small size of Annascaul, the group will be split between several local B&Bs, all within a short walking distance of each other

From here, we turn into the hills and follow a trail around Slea Head, a walk rich in history and natural beauty. Along the way, we’ll see ancient beehive huts, stone structures dating back to early monastic times, and enjoy sweeping views of the Blasket Islands across the Atlantic.

A short transfer takes us to Fermoyle (Formaoil), where we set out along the remarkable Trá Fhormaoileach, one of Ireland’s most beautiful and unspoiled coastal stretches. Our route follows the shoreline all the way to the tip of the Maharees Peninsula, where we’re rewarded with sweeping views of the “Seven Hogs”, a striking cluster of islands scattered just offshore.
This short but invigorating hike gives us ample time to take in the landscape and unwind at the peninsula’s edge.
Distances: appx 11 km
Terrain: Beach walking and some road walking at the end of the day.
Meals: Breakfast
Accommodation: Hotel or BnB, Fermoyle
Our last day on the Dingle Way takes us from Maharees back inland to Camp. It’s a long day but on flat terrain, allowing us to enjoy the fabulous views and peaceful vibes.
The first stretch takes us along peaceful backroads and quiet coastal paths that trace the edge of Tralee Bay, with the dramatic silhouette of the Slieve Mish Mountains rising to our left.
We then cross a bit of road to charming village of Castlegregory, an ideal place to pause, stretch our legs and perhaps enjoy a coffee at a local café. From there, we continue westward along the scenic trail through marshes and beach toward the village of Camp, where our journey on foot concludes.
