Explore Georgia with AW

Georgia is one of the least known but most exciting trekking destinations and this 12-day adventure showcases its very best. From the vibrant streets of Tbilisi to the remote mountain villages of Svaneti, we'll journey deep into the Greater Caucasus to experience dramatic alpine landscapes, warm Georgian hospitality and one of the world's newest great long-distance hiking routes.

The highlight of the journey is a multi-day trek along the spectacular Transcaucasian Trail between Mestia and Ushguli. Traversing high mountain passes, glacier-fed valleys, alpine meadows and centuries-old Svan villages, each day brings rewarding climbs, breathtaking scenery and a genuine sense of adventure. Evenings are spent in welcoming family-run guesthouses, where hearty home-cooked meals and local hospitality provide a well-earned reward after each day's hike.

Designed for experienced hikers with a good level of fitness, this is a journey that celebrates both challenge and connection. Accompanied by your Adventurous Women Tour Leader and an expert local guide, you'll discover a remarkable corner of the Caucasus while sharing the camaraderie and sense of achievement.

Fitness/Walk Grade

This adventure is designed for experienced hikers with a good level of fitness who enjoy spending full days on the trail. You'll be trekking for six consecutive days along the Transcaucasian Trail, with daily walks of up to 18 km, sustained ascents and descents, and uneven alpine terrain including rocky paths, mountain passes and river crossings.

While you don't need technical hiking or climbing experience, you'll need to be comfortable carrying a daypack and walking for 5–8 hours each day. The rewards are immense but preparation is essential. You will need to build your fitness and endurance before departure with regular hiking, including longer walks on hilly terrain.

Solo Travellers

If you’re travelling solo not to worry, you’re in good company! Many of our travellers join solo and our trips are designed to feel welcoming and supportive from the moment you arrive. It’s a great way to meet like-minded women, and friendships often form quickly along the way.

When on the tour , we have you sharing with different women from the group at different times - great for group bonding and also for alleviating any potential annoyances that may occur as a result of travelling with the same person throughout a tour. Or, if you’d prefer your own room on the trip, this is available for an additional supplement.  You can select this option at the time of booking.

Arrival & Departure Details

The tour starts and ends in Tbilisi.

There are no direct flights from Australia to Tbilisi, but the journey is straightforward with a single stop in the Middle East or Asia.

Who will be leading the trip?

All AW trips are accompanied by one of our experienced Tour Leaders. Their role is to take the hassle out of your travels and help you get the most out of your experience, while embracing the Adventurous Women way.

Throughout the trip, you'll also be accompanied by an experienced Georgian tour leader. They will share local knowledge and cultural insights, both on and off the trail.

What if I have dietary restrictions?

We do our best to accommodate dietary requirements and food allergies on every tour. It’s important that any requirements are communicated accurately at the time of booking as when we are in the mountains, options are limited. We’ll discuss with you the options and any necessary precautions or additional preparation needed.

Accommodation

In Tblisi and Kutaisi, we’ll be staying in hotels. For the seven nights in Svaneti region, we’ll be in guesthouses. All rooms will be twin share with en suite bathrooms.

For guests who want a single room, this can be secured in Tblisi and Kutaisi. But due to the small size of guesthouses in Svaneti, a single room may not be possible every night in the mountains. If you are interested in this option, select it at the time of booking and the AW team will advise what’s available.

How will we be travelling?

We have a private, air conditioned vehicle for all of our journeys and transfers. Some of the travel distances are long but the scenery is beautiful and we will make stops on the way.

Is travel insurance required?

Travel insurance is mandatory for AW's international trips. If you haven't done so already, we recommend taking out a policy early. Most good travel insurance policies offer an upgrade option to cover trip cancellation and interruption, which can come in handy.

If you are looking for a recommendation, we suggest Go Insurance. Through an affiliation with this insurer, AW receives a financial benefit. As a way of passing value back to our guests, if you purchase a policy for an AW trip through Go Insurance using this link, you will receive a 10% discount on the premium.
