Today is spent travelling from Brisbane to Carnarvon Gorge. We will stop along the way for a coffee, lunch and a leg stretch at some of Queensland's iconic outback towns.
Meals: Lunch, Snack, Dinner
This 14km full day walk is, without a doubt, the most popular walk at Carnarvon Gorge. Today we are joined by Carnarvon Ecotours who will provide us with specialised local knowledge of the area including the : Art Gallery, Wards Canyon, Amphitheatre, Moss Garden
These four major sites visited today are totally unique:
- the Art Gallery has over 2000 motifs including stencilled, engraved and free hand rock art,dotted along an equally impressive section of sandstone;
- Wards Canyon is home to the one and only colony of King Ferns we know of in inland Australia;
- at the Amphitheatre be blown away by the grandeur of the soaring cliffs:
- the Moss Garden is arguably the best known, and most photographed site at Carnarvon Gorge and is where you'll find one of the best patches of remnant rainforest, and one of the most productive spring systems in the National Park.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Snack, Dinner
Up early this morning for sunrise at Boolimba Bluff, an incredible lookout walk that offers spectacular views of the Gorge mouth and beyond. You'll climb close to 1000 stairs in order to reach the top, so this one is best done in the morning when you're fresh.
Afterwards, we call into the Visitors Centre before heading along the Nature Trail to link up with the Rock Pool. The Nature Trail offers ample wildlife encounters, including the elusive platypus. The Rock Pool is the perfect spot for a swim and lunch.
Finally, we pay a visit to Mickey Creek, offering some of the narrowest landscape experiences at Carnarvon Gorge. Cool even on the warmest of days. The further you venture in, the more rock-hopping you will be required to manage.
The afternoon is yours to relax in readiness for our Night Safari Tour.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Snack, Dinner
There are three key sites on today's itinerary and we look forward to sharing them with you:
- Cathedral Cave is another significant rock art site; just next door you'll find the gem that is
- Boowinda Gorge - here is where creation began and where Mundagarra (Rainbow Serpent), has travelled when exploring this sinuous side gorge.
- Big Bend, the end of the line and has a designated campsite, meaning there are a few creature comforts to take advantage of: a toilet, picnic table, and lovely beach.
This is a lifetime experience! So slow down, allow quality time at each site.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Snack, Dinner
