Currumbin Creek is one of the most picturesque spots on the southern Gold Coast, with the sparkling mirror-calm waters of its estuary bordered by beautiful parklands and wetlands. The creek starts deep in the Gold Coast Hinterland and runs through the pristine rainforest of the Currumbin Valley, offering various rock pools perfect for a dip along the way and then heads right out to the ocean at Currumbin Beach - this is where you’ll find us on today's Friday social walk.

Climb the steep steps of Elephant Rock for sweeping views from Surfers Paradise to Coolangatta, the well-known rock formation located on Currumbin Beach. It is the remains of ancient volcanic activity and the spot has become a major and significant site for the annual Anzac Day Dawn Service.

We then head back over the creek to a pirate themed park and stop here for a cuppa and treat, perhaps even a swim before continuing on our journey.

A walker's delight, the Tarrabora and Beree-Badalla Reserves provide a lovely meander through leafy Banksia woodlands and wetlands on wide flat paths and timber boardwalks. This area is a refuge for abundant wildlife, including many species of birds and reptiles, perfect for a footprint-free exploration of the estuary’s mangroves. Spot water birds like Egrets, Pelicans and Cormorants fishing for their dinner, whilst mud crabs scuttle amongst the mangroves. Dotted along this delightful path are shaded, viewing decks with ample benches for those who want to stop and soak up the serenity.
