Located in one of the few remaining coastal sand dune systems of the Gold Coast, the Federation Walk project was initiated by the community to conserve and enhance the reserve as a natural public space. The project began in 1999 when the Main Beach Progress Association obtained a Queensland Centenary of Federation grant. The funds were matched by City of Gold Coast, leading to construction of the Federation Walk track and community planting activities.

A network of established paths and tracks throughout this beautiful reserve allow for hiking, jogging, cycling, birdwatching or simply sitting under the trees and listening to the birds singing accompanied by the sounds of the ocean.

We will start the Federation Walk in the carpark near the toilet block. There is a designated pathway that will lead us all the way through the Coastal Reserve to the Gold Coast Seaway from where you can take in spectacular views of the coastline. It’s an adventure that takes you back to the untouched history of the Gold Coast.

We will follow the path around to the Broadwater side of the Spit to enjoy morning tea (provided) at one of the many picnic areas with bathroom facilities before heading back to our starting point via the beach taking in the fabulous views of the coastal strip before us, including the buildings of Surfers Paradise, Burleigh Headlands and Greenmont.
