This is a Grade 5 Endurance Hike for experienced and fit hikers.  We are heading into Banyowla Regional Park traversing many steep, rocky and unmarked trails.. 16kms in total, a great workout!

Escape the burbs into a wonderland of wildflowers in springtime. Dramatic slopes, hiking trails, gorges, spectacular views out over the Swan Coastal Plain, an abundance of
wildflowers, an amazing dis-used quarry and a stunning 60 foot waterfall… what more could you ask for!

We start the morning heading into Banyowla Regional Park crossing an Equestrian Trail heading steeply uphill onto unmarked trails. Our hike takes us up some very steep inclines, downhill on loose gravel, along single file bush tracks and overgrown vehicle tracks and crossing a number of small ephemeral creeks as we pass through lovely Wandoo dominated forest.

With granite being the dominant rock in Australia’s South West, be delighted as we pass by some darker rocks made from Dolerite, less common in WA but from which many
mountains in Tasmania are made.

Taking in the magnificence of the old Barrington Quarry and the spectacular Sixty Foot Falls in the Ellis Brook Valley Reserve, it will be a day of delights. The old Barrington Quarry where old workings provide a window into the geology of the area. This quarry is distinctly known for its yearly round bluey green water and you are greeted with uninterrupted views of what could be a scene from the Kimberley. The now abandoned quarry has a man-made lake that you peer over from your viewing point with sheer granite cliffs surrounding it on three sides. From the right position you could imagine you are in the middle of nowhere sitting right above a beautiful gorge surrounded by nature.

An array of wildflowers of all shapes and colours are on display from September through to November and numerous varieties of orchids are here to be found.

We complete todays walk back at our cars feeling rejuvenated and rewarded after completing a solid workout in stunning surrounds.
