MAKE A BOOKING

Ladies your invited to join our Book Club hosted by Leonie, it’s a fun and supportive group of ladies who enjoy catching up socially and a meal on the night.

We generally meet every 2 months as this gives everyone time to source the book and read it. On the night we discuss a book or books that the group have read and then each person is given an opportunity to express their opinions, likes and dislikes. In saying that if you haven’t read the book, then it’s still totally ok to come along.
Please don’t feel any pressure, the group is all about having fun!

This time around we are meeting at The Arkaba Hotel, 150 Glen Osmond Road, Fullarton, Adelaide. Sorry ladies there is only a month to read either book this time and we are running with something different this time, as there are comedians appearing at the Ark on the night. "Straight Outta Compo".

Award winning producer Joe Avati has put together another show starring the guys from Here Come The Habibs and Fat Pizza (Rob and Tahir), plus George Kapiniaris and Joe Avati himself. These four outstanding comedians promise to deliver a packed show full of stand up, sketches, songs, video and the usual surprises. So lets make a night of it and it will add some belly laughs to our night!

Your choice is just come along for our Book Club dinner and discussion and then also joining us afterwards for the comedy show too.
The show starts at 8pm and tickets will need to be purchased ($49.50 plus a $2.50 booking fee using the link is below)

The 2 Books put forward to read are:
1st Book.....The Dry by Jane Harper
Winner of the 2017 BookBrowse Debut Novel Award

A small town hides big secrets in The Dry, an atmospheric, page-turning debut mystery by award-winning author Jane Harper.
After getting a note demanding his presence, Federal Agent Aaron Falk arrives in his hometown for the first time in decades to attend the funeral of his best friend, Luke. Twenty years ago when Falk was accused of murder, Luke was his alibi. Falk and his father fled under a cloud of suspicion, saved from prosecution only because of Luke's steadfast claim that the boys had been together at the time of the crime. But now more than one person knows they didn't tell the truth back then, and Luke is dead.
Amid the worst drought in a century, Falk and the local detective question what really happened to Luke. As Falk reluctantly investigates to see if there's more to Luke's death than there seems to be, long-buried mysteries resurface, as do the lies that have haunted them. And Falk will find that small towns have always hidden big secrets.

2nd Book.......Beyond Veiled Cliches, by Amal Awad
The real lives of Arab Women

As someone who has a foot in both the Western and Arabic worlds, Amal set out to explore the lives of Arab women, in Australia and the Middle East, travelling to the region and interviewing more than sixty women about feminism, intimacy, love, sex and shame, trauma, war, religion and culture.
Beyond Veiled Cliches explores the similarities and differences experienced by these women in their daily lives - work, relationships, home and family life, friendships, the communities they live in, and more. Arab-Australian women are at the intersection - between Western ideals and Arab tradition. It can get messy, but there is also great beauty in the layers.

In a time of racial tension and rising global fear around terrorism, there is a renewed fear of 'the other'. At its heart this fascinating book normalises people and their experiences. The breadth, variety and beauty of what Amal has discovered will enthral and surprise you.
