This Friday's walk takes us to the Arundel / Coombabah Lake Conservation Area on the northern end of the Gold Coast.
Join Caron and Kat in this absolutely hidden gem of 1220 hectares of wetland, eucalypt forests, salt marsh and mangrove swamp habitat. Lake Coombabah and it’s estuarine system are a vital coastal area for migratory waterbirds and a habitat for marine creatures.
The Conservation area is home to approximately 150 koalas which can be found doing what they do best, sleeping the day way high up in the canopy. Along with the resident drop bears, kangaroos, powerful owls and the grey headed flying fox - all considered ‘vulnerable’ or ‘near threatened’ - call this place home. In all, over 270 species of animals inhabit this area and it's right on our doorstep, how lucky are we!
We will be wandering among the melaleucas on this flat 10km walk that travels along well maintained forestry trails with the occasional boardwalk. We stroll past an open grassy field , home to many of the local kangaroos. From here the serious koala spotting begins as we then follow the trail under the canopy of eucalyptus and tallowoods.
We encourage you to take your time and savour this wonderful parcel of land that the Gold Coast Council purchased for residents and to also secure the area for the indigenous and migratory animals for years to come.
It is a true conservation area so we are not encouraged to stay and have a picnic. There are also no toilet facilities.
After our morning walk we invite you to a local park 10 minutes away on the beautiful Gold Coast Broadwater to enjoy a cuppa and something homemade by your hosts (and there's a toilet! )
Please note: To attend this event you must be COVID double vaccinated. Proof of vaccination MUST be supplied BEFORE the event by emailing a screen shot or appropriate document to office@adventurouswomen.com.au

Fabulous day. The crew were exceptional as were the volunteers. Great fun learning the ropes (literally) and being given the chance to 'captain' the boat.
Fantastic adventure that suits all abilities.
