Considered one of the most interesting nature reserves close to Brisbane, Gold Creek Reservoir was created when Gold Creek Dam, only the second dam built in Queensland, and the first in the world to utilise a cascading spillway was constructed in 1885.
The dam was eventually decommissioned in 1991, but the reservoir has been retained for recreational use and offers the perfect location for hikes amongst the long established animal habitat that has become home to many bird species including Whip Birds, Bell Birds and the beautiful Azure Kingfisher.
Join Chris on this 5.5km moderately challenging hike around the circumference of the reservoir which provides an interesting, varied and at times challenging trek through thick bushland including a few inclines that will get your heart pumping!
