This short moderately easy walk to the top of Mt Ngungun (pronounced noo noo and meaning "black") passes through beautiful native forests and boasts over 126 species of plants and many native animals and birds including scaly-breasted and rainbow lorikeets.

Once at the summit we will enjoy a glass of bubbly and and share a delicious gourmet platter, while enjoying the gorgeous 360° panoramic views of Mount Tibrogargan, Mount Coonowrin, Mount Beerwahwe, the coast and hinterland (so don't forget your camera!) as the sunsets and lights up the sky.

When we're ready to return it's torches on, as we make our way back down the trail while keeping an eye out for animals that are more easily seen in the evening including koalas that can be found in the bloodwood and tallow trees along the way.

Please note: a good quality torch or head torch is must for this event. Phone torches are not be good enough

Mount Ngungun and the other Glasshouse Mountain peaks, are held sacred by the local Gubbi Gubbi Aboriginal people and was a considered a special meeting place. The mountains themselves are rhyolitic plugs left by volcanic activity millions of years ago.

Getting there:

Take the M1 to Elimbah and exit at Steve Irwin Way. Continue along Steve Irwin Way to the Glasshouse Mountains Township.
Follow the road to the west over the railway lines and turn left into Coonowrin Road at the T junction.
Then turn right into Fullertons Road just after the State School and along this road to the car park at the base of the mountain. (map: https://goo.gl/maps/6aVc4CJwNj6V2QWo9
