MAKE A BOOKING

If you want to tick off a major bucket list walk in Queensland, you have to do the Sunshine Coast Hinterland Great Walk!

This adventure has been designed for the woman who is looking for a multi-day walking experience with all the comforts.

Just north of Brisbane, the walk crosses the Maleny-Mapleton Plateau and the Blackall Range and traverses along one of the most dramatic terrains in Queensland. Discover dense sub-tropical rainforest, an abundance of birdlife, and breathtaking views and scenery: View the tumbling cascades of waterfalls; rest beside refreshing, rainforest rock pools; be awed by the spectacular vistas of the rolling hills and views of the Pacific Ocean.

The adventure allows four days to complete the walk, and we are making this a pack-free adventure so all you need is a daypack to carry your water and lunch each day. Your guides will be transporting you to and from the trail each day, walking with you along the trail and providing you with home cooked meals most nights. We also provide private air-conditioned transportation to and from Brisbane.

Our guests will stay in shared accommodation nestled in the Sunshine Coast hinterlands.

This walk is graded as Medium to Hard and is suitable for experienced hikers

Itinerary

Leaving from Brisbane, we will make our way up the M1 to the Mary Cairncross Scenic Park - a 55 hectare subtropical rainforest - the perfect place for lunch and to spend some time enjoying the views and walks. Feel free to bring your own lunch or purchase something from the cafe.

We then arrive at our home away from home. Enjoy a welcoming glass of bubbles and something to eat while you relax and take in your surroundings.

A light dinner prepared by your hosts will be served for tonight's meal.

Meals: Snack, Dinner

After a hearty breakfast, our first day on the Sunshine Coast Great Walk starts at Baroon Pocket Dam. Together we cross bridges over vine entangled streams, descend into gullies and up to lookouts with spectacular views of the Obi Obi Gorge and Lake Baroon.

Parts of this track are boardwalks built to protect rare frog habitat, while there are other sections that can be challenging, as you walk among the giant strangler figs in lush rainforest down in the deeper valleys leading you to the banks of the Obi Obi Creek, then up to the Kondalilla Falls. After pausing at this beautiful waterfall, we head up to the picnic area and beyond to where our bus will be waiting.

Dinner is at a local restaurant tonight ... on us!

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Snack, Dinner

Section Two of the Adventurous Women’s Great Walk takes you through open eucalypt forest, rocky outcrops and rainforests. Highlights include Baxter Falls, Mapleton Falls picnic area and Gheerulla Falls. After stopping at Gheerulla Falls we have a short walk to Delicia Road where the bus will be waiting to collect us.

Today is a long day, but we are treated to superb valley views from the many lookouts along this part of the track.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Snack, Dinner

Starting back at Delicia Road, today we head up a steep incline before continuing along the ridgeline to the Thilba Thalba walkers camp. There are several viewpoints where we can look out over the valley to the surrounding farmlands and mountain ranges - looking back to where we have been and looking forward to where we still need to go.

The undulating track through a dry, scribbly gum forest leads us to Gheerulla Bluff before a steep descent to the creek below and the bus.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Snack, Dinner

Our last day. After packing up, it’s back to Sam Kelly Road to complete the last leg of the Great Walk. Today we are treated to a beautifully tree covered section of the track with multiple creek crossings. This section is less grueling than yesterdays’ and allows us to enjoy this incredible area.

Your guides will treat you to one of the many local venues for a celebratory lunch, then you can rest while they drive you back to Brisbane.
